How did they do that?

I always find production processes fascinating, mostly because I have had so little exposure to how things are actually made through my life. However recently I have been lucky enough to get to experience first hand the design and production process of various sponsor's products, which has furthered my curiosity. So I found this short video, showing a pair of Salomon S Lab 2 (may favourite Salomon shoe) being made, worth a gander.

Seasons

I live a seasonal life and am currently in a shoulder season period, with exams around the corner and words slowly filling pages as papers come to life. Like most shoulder seasons, things are a bit quiet at the moment, but the ticking clock of time and pending deadlines is getting louder:

More bike eye candy

From the ages of about 10 through 14 I was pretty keen on skateboarding and although I sucked at it, I couldn't look at a gap, rail, bush, steep road...without dreaming of some cool trick that I would like to do on it. Unfortunately, I never had much follow through on these daydreams and what little footage I might have had of my attempts further deflated my ego, with my supposedly cool "big air", being neither cool, nor big when caught on tape :)
So although I didn't have the skill to pull off the moves, I spent a lot of time imagining the possibilities. Some, people, like Danny MacAskill of internet fame, do have the ability to look at a feature, imagine a trick and pull it off in a very graceful way that does look big and cool on tape (after more than a few unrecorded/edited tries and bruises I'm sure). Well he is back, stunning me again with another amazing video, enjoy:

How to Have an Idea

Here's a neat little illustration by Frank Chimero about the creative process, or having an idea. It can be summarized by a few gem quotes:
"Stop being a weenie & just go make something. Judge it's value after you finish and before you share."
"There is no process if you don't start. No one crumples a blank piece of paper"
