Dream racing and waking up at the finish line

Not sure about night races, I have never done one. I do like to take in the scenery on long runs, but I am sure it would be a whole other sensory experience. It would likely be very trance like. You would focus on the rhythmic tapping of your feet, the breathing pattern, the motion of your body, the narrow window of vision that you have...it could also be the longest night of your life (metaphorically speaking-I know that time wouldn't actually slow down)!

I love that the Swede, who probably goes all winter without sunlight (how's that for a stereotype), likes the night races :)

Regardless, this trailer of: THE NIGHT OF FLANDERS from Michele Cinque (I saw it over at Mzungo) is worth a watch, with some good shots. From the brief clip, it appears to capture a bit of what I imagine it is like to run 100km at night. Although it also seems to have that, voyage of self-discovery, we are epic, undertone to it! I write that a bit condescendingly, but will also acknowledge that it is one of the reasons that I enjoy longer outings!

Ha. I had to laugh at this movie. I ran that race last year for the US and it was very very strange to start as the sun went down. The only thing that kept it entertaining was the parties going on in the small towns we looped through. Funny the number of marriage proposals I got at 2 in the morning from drunk guys watching the race.

It does take a different mentality to run only at night, with no lights (in some parts) and in loops.

Hey Devon, congrats on your race last week. My wife and I have been enjoying your blog quite a bit. I have been the beneficiary of some of your recipes!

Those are awesome stories. Euro racing can be wacky and creative. I raced a mountain race, the Jungfrau marathon, that started in front of a Hooters and ended on a glacier. Culture clash in one race!
The spectators certainly don't lack enthusiasm, but I can't say that I have received marriage proposals!

I guess the one good thing about a night race in Europe from a NA standpoint, is that jet lag isn't such a big factor!

Still, you are one tough customer. Look forward to catching up at some races this summer.

Good luck at AR & thanks for posting!
